“We don’t receive wisdom; we must discover it for ourselves after a journey that no one can take for us or spare us.” Marcel Proust
Journeys have been the subjects of stories for thousands of years. An epic narrates the journey of a hero. The hero faces immense challenges, and in the end he or she discovers something about himself or herself and/or about the world.
Describe a journey that you have taken in your life. The journey can literally involve traveling, or it can be more metaphorical (e.g., tell about a challenge you have faced, something new you have experienced, etc.). Describe the journey, but also tell about the wisdom you gained from it--about yourself or about the world or both.
Here’s an example for you:
A few years ago, my friends Erin and Faith decided to take a rock climbing class. I was hesitant because I didn’t think I would be good at it, but they were so excited that I signed up anyway. The class was scary at first. I was always afraid I would fall, and coming down seemed worse than going up! As we learned the techniques, however, I realized I was actually pretty good at climbing. Moreover, I really enjoyed it. I discovered that I liked facing the challenge of getting to the top of the wall. Sometimes I couldn’t make it to the top of a path, but after practicing and trying again and again, I eventually could reach the top--or at least higher than I had the first time. I discovered that it’s ok not to reach a goal, but that I can meet most of my goals if I don’t give up and persevere through difficulties.

DeleteLast year i was chose to go to converse leadership school during the summer for a week. So we had to be at practice every morning at 6:50 to run, practice drill and practice leadership skills. When we first got there i was kind of nervous because i didnt know who i was going to be roomates with or who was in my flight. As the week went on we all started to become friends with everyone in our flight. Then saturday we graduated from leadership school and we had to leave. It was fun meeting new people but i was glad to go because i was really tired.
ReplyDeleteThe Converse Leadership School sounds like a good experience. What did you learn about yourself or about life from your experiences there?
DeleteLast year when i was a freshman coming to Ashbrook I didnt know anybody. Because I came from York Chester, nearly everybody at ashbrook were coming from Holbrook and Grier. I was really nervous, and worried alot. So when I got in my classes all I did was be really quiet. All I seen was people laughing alot talking and I was walking all alone. couple people said hey to me but I was shy. So I finally decided to stop acting that way and i was talking and made new friends I made alot of people laugh and I started to have a good time in school and it has gotten easier and easier and now I can act as myself now
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you were able to learn how to be more like yourself as you got more comfortable at the new school, Malik.

Long story short As i Was Rolling I Slipped and fell on my hand and my beautiful Bone popped out and my hand turned purple and blue. As i got back up i looked at it and the pain started coming in , so they called my parents and i was taken to the emergency room . They put a huge cast on me from my hand all the way up to my elbow . That sounds like a painful experience, Chaunae! What did you learn about yourself or about life from the experience?
DeleteOver the summer i went to Myrtle Beach to visit my family and i ended up staying with my sister Kay for about month and a half. She took me to go play mini golf, and on one of the puts she accidentally hit me in the mouth by swinging her putt to far back jokingly so she took me to the hospital that we had to wait for about 2 hours just see what was wrong with my mouth and jaw and i lost 3 teeth and my jaw had a crack in it so i learned not to always play around to much with things that can cause people injuries
ReplyDeleteSounds like a painful lesson, David! We do need to be careful not to mess around with things that can be dangerous.
Deletethe time i went to florida

DeleteMy journey was about a year and half ago. When i lived in Mesa, Arizona. Me and my family would go to the lake every weekend and there is a lake called Fon-De Sutton and it was all cliffs. All my sisters tried getting me to go jump off the cliffs with them but i was to scared to. But one day i went off by myself and i jumped off one of the baby cliffs and it was so exciting and i wanted to jump off bigger cliffs. so i walked back to where my family was sitting and told my older sisters i wanted to go. And it took me a while to actually jump but i finally did it.
ReplyDeleteWas the cliff jumping fun? What did you learn about yourself or about life from the experience?
DeleteA journey I took at the beginning of the year was moving to this state. I left a lot of friends and family behind and I miss New York a lot but, I like it here because I learned a little bit more about life and food.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to hear more about your journey, CJ. What did you learn about yourself and about life from moving here from NY?

ReplyDeleteA couple of days ago I arrive in the U.S. I think this is going to be a positive experience, to improve my English and learn about the culture, there are a lot of differences between Spain and U.S. the classes are so different they are focused different, are more interactive and interesting. Here the food is different, and we need the car to go anyway, in Spain you can go wherever you want walking, so its so different and the first days could be hard, but then I think that is going to be a great journey.
I'm glad that you have a positive attitude about moving to the U.S. I know it can be scary moving somewhere new, but it can teach you about different people and also about yourself. You're doing a great job here so far--I'm very proud of you!
DeleteLast year I was slacking real hard, I was missing a lot of school days ( In total about 3 months of school missed ) until I heard a knocking on my door, it was this big tall guy he walked in and began to say " Hey are you Manuel? " I said Yeah and he said " Well Manuel we got a problem you're missing a lot of school" I said " Yeah I know I am " " Well that's not good and I'm sorry but you cant live here anymore " so I went to go get my stuff went to my moms house and began to care more and more about school and now I want to graduate on time and make myself and my family proud
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a scary experience! I'm glad to see you have learned to focus on school and success. I hope I can help you achieve your goals of graduating and making your family proud!
Deletei wen't to Lincoln with my brother and i spent time with him for the weekend i haven't seen him in three years the last time i saw him when i was 13 years old. We played the game together we went out to got something to eat and Lincoln is different from Gastonia it's pretty quiet out there no yelling,no fighting and stuff. New challenges have faced is the food there is better than here and as we call it the gym they call it the rack.
