Do you think that these stereotypes affect the way people view, behave or perceive themselves? Give examples. How can we try to reduce the negative effects of stereotypes? A stereotype is used to categorize people or set them in certain groups by the way they act, their race, or their religion. When someone doesn’t know a certain persons personally they put them into different classifications. They think everyone who acts the same or seems like they are the same type of person then they should be classified as one group. A few of examples of stereotypes are below:
ReplyDeletemale - strong, do all the work
female - can’t do what a man is able to do; not strong enough
blacks - good at sports or singing talents; or outside of the U.S. they’re considered poor
americans - friendly, generous, and tolerant
arabs - terrorists
italian or french - the best lovers
mexicans - lazy, came into america illegally
goths - wear black clothes, black make-up, and depressed
girls - concerned about their physical appearance
blonds - unintelligent
children - don’t enjoy healthy foods
How do stereotypes affect your life? Do people ever stereotype you?
DeleteWhat is a stereotype classifying certain groups to have all the same characteristic
ReplyDeletestereotypes make grental about about people in a group and the group can be perceived as good or bad depending on the stereotype are created by fear and paired and misunderstanding of certain groups children learn stereotypes from their parents possibly in some situation avoid using broad central action about certain groups of people try to be more open minded and loving towards everyone point out when someone elses is encouraging a stereotype and try to help them see people more relizaicaly. Do not tolerate unkind comments towards others.
I like that you say we should not tolerate unkind comments toward others. Stereotypes are perpetuated because we allow people to get away with saying things that feed the stereotype.
DeleteA sterotype is a group of people that are similar like thier race or hair color and people assume that they are all the same. somebody that dont like a person and they start saying things about them and everyone else assumes that every person with the same characteristics as them act the same way. Also if some one desnt know a persons personality they will just put them i a group that you think they act by thier religion, race, how old you are, and even your hair color. like people think all blondes are not smart, or people that are black are only good at sports.
ReplyDeleteGood points, Kelsey. How do you think stereotypes affect people?
DeleteA stereotype is oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes affect the way people are perceived because it gives people negative images and reputations. For instance almost every blonde white girl on TV shows and movies are portrayed as pretty, but dumb girls. This gives a majority of blonde haired girls a stereotype as being dumb when not all are. They exist because they give people a quick window for judging someone when we have had the same are similar experiences. They are passed down by on experiencing someone doing something then they tell other people and it goes on. I think that it does affect the way people behave and perceive themselves. We can try to reduce the negative effects of stereotypes by not judging people on how they look or how they talk because you can think people are mean but they are really nice.
ReplyDeleteGood job articulating your ideas, CJ. Your explanation of the example of the blonde is good support for your point of view.
DeleteA stereotype can be classified as any human being or even something. There are many different things that people could be stereotypical about such as, male’s work harder than women. But everyone knows that is not always true. Being a stereotype is like making up stuff to make someone else look bad. There is one that stands out and its that blonde’s are dumb and brunette’s are smart. Which is also not true because there are some very smart blonde’s. Being stereotypical is trying to make someone look bad or even trying to make them feel bad. It is cateorgrizing people into different groups, even though everyone should be treated the same because everyone is equal.
ReplyDeleteI like your point that everyone is equal and should be treated the same. Stereotypes can make it hard to see what a person is really like.
DeleteA stereotype is idea that person acts certain way or can do certain things because of what they look like or act like. Some people believe stereotypes are real today which can cause problems in real world all the way to schools. Its not that hard to start a stereotype most people can start one and it will be all over school in matter weeks or even days no less in the world. Most stereotypes are passed down by either friends or teachers and sometimes even parents can teach a kid a stereotype. I believe that stereotypes do change how people look at certain people and genders, and sometimes even people can stereotype themselves. We could reduce the negative impacts of stereotypes by just stop spreading them and stop always calling people by the group there stereotyped in and for people to stand up for that person or group instead of just sitting there and keep letting it go on.
ReplyDeleteI think it's important that we respect everyone and try not to create and spread stereotypes by associating individuals' behaviors with whole groups of people. Good post, David.

ReplyDeleteA stereotype is a preconceived about a person or a group, this idea can be about his way of think, act, or believes. Sometimes this can cause conflicts in public places because there are some people that still believing today in stereotypes, and there are only based on the physical aspect, style of dressing, or hairstyle. The people that believe in stereotypes is difficult to change their idea, because is a thought that have a big foundation, so these things can cause harms to the people that is suffering the prejudice.
ReplyDeleteThe stereotypes are usually transmitted by parents, friends, publicity, teachers, and other influential figures, like famous people.
The stereotypes can change the people that suffer it and the people that believe in it, because their are pressing the people with a very influential idea that make them ask himself if this is true, and the most of the times they start believing in the stereotypes that the others believes.
I think you're right that people who have influence transmit stereotypes. Most of the things we learn come from people who influence us. That is how we come to understand the world--from the perspective of those people we look up to.
DeleteA stereotype is something that is someone else opinion and not a fact or true . Stereotypes can be good or bad and they affect people by either letting them down or lying to make them smile . Sometimes they can cause a fall out or conflict with someone like a friend , family member or someone you used to be very close with . You shouldn't always believe stereotypes because believing someone else's opinion isn't always good . Im not sure who creates stereotypes but i just think almost everyone is stereotype which is sad but that's just life . Stereotypes keep growing and growing because once someone get's information from a stereotype they start picking up the stereotypes habbits which is to make people believe other peoples opinion's . There is nothing you can really do to stop a stereotype because they have there own opinions like everyone else you just have to ignore them .
ReplyDeleteI think you're part right when you say stereotypes are opinions, but they are more than that--they are people's beliefs and assumptions. They aren't usually about individuals, but about whole groups of people, and are usually formed because of things those people have seen or heard.
Deletestereotype is when you either look, hear, basically judge sombody on how they look. stereotype is everywhere it happens all the time in court, in court, on the streets right infront of our eyes. you can even sterotype without knowing them.one of the biggest stereotypes happen in the court of law. if we had a group of all racist convicted of breaking some kind of law leading to time in jail. the african american would get more years than anyone and the white man would get the least. that is stereotype. and because of this people look at eachother based on skin color
ReplyDeleteI think it is sad that people make assumptions about people in a court situation because of race. But you are right, even juries bring their prejudices with them into the courtroom. Do you have any ideas how we can change the way people think about race?
Deletestereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or a idea of a particular type of person or thing. people judge them in the outside instead of inside of there body i always hear that almost everyday. people think what they are but there ain't like that when you get to know them very close. people created stereotype they judge people everyday of their life's so people don't talk to them at all because they judged them already. they get passed down by there family's because they got picked on when they were younger in their life so that's why they get passed down. yes if you just talk to them for a little while you will get to know them very fast so you don't have to judge them again. I got picked on when i was little because i was the smallest in my class they think i was short that i couldn't play sports so i showed them that i could play sports i they stop picking on me, i don't get picked on now more at all.
